Muskingum County Health Commissioner Corey Hamilton met with the Muskingum County Commissioner’s on Thursday to get their feedback on health department services, to discuss what they’d like to see in the future and next year’s budget.
"The heath department is in the process of completing a strategic plan that will cover the period from 2014 from 2018," said Hamilton. "We expect there to continue to be major changes in the healthcare landscape in our community and in the world, actually. So we are trying to anticipate what those changes are and position the health department to provide the greatest value in health for the community."
One of the anticipated changes is a $100,000 budget shortfall. Funds provided by the commissioner’s and the city to assist with facility costs, will no longer be available.
"Both of them have now informed us for 2014 that that support is not going to be available to us. And so we’re looking at how will we shift our budget around to cover those costs on our own."
Hamilton said since the department is already planning for next year, she feels confident the costs will be covered. Hamilton also mentioned as flu season is approaching, the health department is offering free flu shots for Muskingum County residents on Thursday, October 10 at the Muskingum County Fairgrounds.
