Leadership Muskingum 2013-2014 kicked off Friday at the OUZ/Zane State College campus center.

16 leaders from all over the county spent the day learning to become better leaders, and they’ll spend the next nine months honing their skills and learning all about Muskingum County.

"We have business and industry days where they’ll go into different businesses within the county, history and diversity day; learning about the history of Muskingum county," said Chair of the Leadership Alumni Committee Dan Kieffer. "Social services day, education day. Just so many things that they’ll learn about Muskingum County."

The 16 participants started the morning off with breakfast and took notes and advice from keynote speakers. Kieffer said the group will also learn about the four different types of leadership styles.

"Some might believe that you’re a born leader. I don’t believe that, I believe you make leaders. That’s why were here. Certainly different personalities have more ability to be forth coming with their leadership. But it doesn’t mean that the person who’s quiet doesn’t also have leadership capabilities within them."

The group will also learn about networking during their nine month course.
