More Details on Putnam Avenue Shooting

The Zanesville Police Department says it’s continuing to investigate a shooting incident outside Hoppys bar on Putnam Avenue early Sunday morning that injured 4 people. WHIZ has obtained 911 calls from the incident and local reaction.

A birthday party, gone terribly wrong. Zanesville Police say, the party that had escalated, lasted well into the early morning hours on Sunday, until gunshots rang out at 4:13 a.m. into a crowd of party goers.

Detective Harry Taylor says two males, ages 38 and 37 and two females, ages 33 and 22, were struck and injured by gun fire. One person was reportedly shot five times.

All four victims were transported to Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital. Later a fight broke out in connection to the shooting incident. A genesis spokesperson says the hospital was placed under lockdown at 4:20 a.m. due to the potential for violence. Three of the victims injuried were flown by medical helicopter to Grant Medical Center in Columbus.

Businesses along Putnam Avenue are not happy and neighbors of Hoppys say something needs to be done. This facility should be shut down. Area businesses are refusing to comment on camera due repercussions.

Detective Taylor says at this time, there is no clear motive and it is unknown how many suspects were involved in this shooting. Anyone with information is asked to call the Zanesville Police Department at 740-455-0700
