The Muskingum County Juvenile Detention Center currently uses nurses from the Zanesville-Muskingum County Health Department for medical treatment at their facility, but next year, they have a new plan.
"Due to some changes in what we kind of want to do and what the health department want to do, we’ve decided to maybe look a different direction, go with a different company," said Superintendent of the Muskingum County Detention Center Allen Bennett.
During a meeting with the Muskingum County Commissioner’s, Bennett notified them of the change. Bennett said they plan on contracting with Premier Physician Resources, the same company the Muskingum County Jail uses for their inmates.
"Our nurses do a lot in our facility. All the kids that come in have to have a physical within the first 72 hours which the nurse does. A lot of our kids are on medications. The nurses kind of run the medication program; package the meds, pass meds, those kind of things."
The juvenile detention center has a nurse on staff Monday through Friday during business hours. With the switch to Premier Physician Resources, Bennett said because they will be using the same company as the county jail, they will have access to the the jail’s nurses during times their nurse isn’t on duty.
