On Thursday, the Muskingum County Commissioner’s received bids from two companies to replace 28 deteriorating manholes and pipelines.

"Over the period of years, there’s been a lot of different chemicals or what-have-you, put in that line and they were concrete manholes and they are deteriorating," said Commissioner Jim Porter. "Some of them, there’s nothing there but a lid actually. So we’ve got a major problem out that way."

The cost to fix the huge problem is estimated by the county engineer at over half a million dollars. MJ Excavating out of Sugarcreek gave a bid of just over $596,000 and Kendrick Excavating of Zanesville bid just over $543,000.

"We took them under advisement. The engineering company will look at those along with our project engineer and they will decide the best and the most efficient bids and make sure they have everything they are required to have."

The commissioner’s will have a decision by next week.
