The Animal Shelter of Muskingum County is hosting a special sale on about 25 cats living at the shelter.
Typically the adoption fee for a cat is 60 dollars, but for certain selected breeds, that price has been cut in half to only 30 dollars.
"We are kind of focusing on some cats that have been here longer, that’s really what we are looking at and just some of the ones that typically aren’t at the top of someone’s list,” said Executive Director Jody Murray. “We have a lot of black cats and some tabby cats and some older cats and things like that."
Murray says they are at capacity for housing cats and there is waiting list, due to a yearly influx of homeless cats, from spring when most litters are born until winter.
“They will kind of find someone’s barn or garage to stay in during the winter time and then during spring time they start coming out with litters of kittens. We stay full most of the time with cats and again this special is something that hopefully the folks will come out, if you are thinking about getting a cat, you will come out and look at what we’ve got and do some adoptions for us."
The shelter is able to have this special because of help from local businesses providing donations. Cats that are on special will have a sticker saying so on their cage.
