Two local fire departments met at Jaycee’s Golf Course and played a couple of rounds to raise money for their stations.
This is the first year that South Zanesville and the Newton Township Fire Departments participated in the joint golf outing.
"It worked out really well," said Newton Township Chief, Allen Deaver. The two departments work great together on a day to day basis on runs just about every fire run we go on, so it was a natural thing for us to work together to do this. "
Once golfers were off of the course, the group participated in a raffle where everyone went home a winner, and they also ate a hearty lunch of cheeseburgers and chips. Deaver says he is satisfied with the outcome for their first year.
" It looks like it’s going to be somewhere near $1,000 dollars and that will be split between the two departments, and the departments will use that to buy whatever supplies or gear they need for the fire fighters, " said Deaver.
The fire departments plan to make this an annual golf outing in the future.
