A powerful image was to be seen outside of the Morrison House Hospice and Palliative Care Tuesday evening.

Friends, family and classmates of Mariah Williams came out for a candlelight vigil to celebrate her 17th birthday as she continues to battle brain cancer at the Morrison House.

"Her mother has been taking care of her at home for several weeks and the pain just got to the point that (she) couldn’t take it, you know, to handle the pain,” said Debbie Savage, friend of Mariah’s mother. “They took her to the emergency room on Sunday at 11:30 and finally got moved over here Sunday night. The pain has been under control, she doesn’t seem to be under any pain, just not responsive.”

Debbie says Mariah is always wearing a smile and is fun loving. although there was an overwhelming sadness during the vigil, Mariah’s family and friends told funny stories, prayed and sang together to celebrate the birth of the special teen.

"I would just like to ask everybody in the community, to please continue to pray for Mariah and her family, to give them strength. We are still planning to have several more benefits for her and for the family, but just keep the prayers coming, we need them, all we can get. "

If you wish to donate money for Mariah’s family, there is a fund set up at Huntington National Bank or you can contact Debbie at 740-683-0392
