The Zanesville-Muskingum County Welcome Center hosted the Utilities, Gas & Oil Expo on Thursday. Students from Zanesville, Foxfire, Mid-East, New Tech and other high schools stopped by the event to learn about future job opportunities in Muskingum County.

"When we talk about employers, they keep telling us they want training in areas that they can get jobs in and this gives us an opportunity for young people to come in and talk to people that actually work on the job," said Executive Director of Ohio Means Jobs Muskingum County, Bob Mercer. "Say from AEP or Halliburton, but it also gives them an opportunity to talk to instructors from various courses and even some of the students that are enrolled right now and are going through the training."

Zane State College and Mid-East instructors were at the event to talk to students about the training programs they offer that will prepare them for a future in the energy industry.

"We hear, ‘where are the jobs? We hear that they’re coming in, where are the jobs?’ Well, they’re on their way and we need to be ready for it and that’s just what were trying to tell everybody, especially the young people," said Tim Snodgrass, Director of Energize Appalachian Ohio at Zane State College. "They’re the ones that are gonna make or break he energy future for this area and for the whole world."
