Muskingum County WIC Remains Open

Despite a partial government shutdown, one local federally funded program that helps mothers and young children will continue.

Officials at the Muskingum County WIC office say that they are open for the month of October and they plan to stay in business. WIC receives operating funds from the Ohio Health Department.

"At the state level they do have a little bit carry over funds from the previous fiscal year for administrative cost and then for food cost it’s just really being aware of what people are spending, " said Muskingum County WIC Project Coordinator, Jody Shriver.

The WIC office is still accepting and scheduling appointments and they are also issuing and redeeming coupons as usual. They are open every Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but will be closed for two specials days this month.

"We are closed next Thursday, October 10th for the Muskingum County Flu Clinic at the fairgrounds," said Shriver. We would also be closed on Monday, October 14th for Columbus day. "

Other state’s WIC programs have closed their doors in lieu of the recent government shutdown, but Ohio and Muskingum County are safe for now.
