The Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office is getting ready for Halloween by checking on sex offenders and advising them not to give out candy. Muskingum County Sheriff Matt Lutz says there are 152 registered sex offenders in Muskingum County and says deputies are paying close attention to them.

"We do a lot of registration with those folks as they come in here to register," said Sheriff Lutz. "We also go out and verify their addresses and we have been doing that over the last couple months to try and verify as we go into the trick-or-treat season and we have kids walking around in different areas, we’re out trying to monitor them and making sure they’re in the right places where they’re supposed to be."

Parents can now feel a little safer knowing deputies will be spread throughout different neighborhoods in the county to keep an extra eye on trick-or-treaters.

"We try to divide up the different areas with cruisers. Captain LeCocq and myself usually go out as well during the trick or treat times and we’ll have a cruiser in those areas. Just being extra visible for our kids that are out there and walking around."
