The Zanesville-Muskingum County Welcome Center will host the Utilities, Gas & Oil Expo this Thursday.
The expo, which is not a job fair, is intended to expose the workforce in Muskingum County to employers in the energy-related industry. An industry that is expected to see an increase in jobs.
"So inside we’ll have displays like compressed gas and solar energy and electronics," said Executive Director of Ohio Means Jobs Muskingum County, Bob Mercer. "And also, some of our programs at MidEast like the welding program, heavy equipment operation and truck driver training. These are jobs that are here right now actually, and some of them are coming to our community."
Mercer said the expo will give people the opportunity to talk first-hand with employers, instructors, employees and students in specific industries to see if that type of job is right for them.
"And that’s what we’re hoping to happen is for them to see it might be a good fit for them and a realistic view in what it’s going to take in the way of training to get to where their ultimate goal is. To get a job that is in demand and also has benefits so that they can have a wage that will support their lifestyle."
The free expo will be from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. Thursday, October 10 and is sponsored by AEP Ohio, Zane State College and MidEast Career & Technology Center.
