Wreaths Across America For Veterans

A non-profit organization called Wreaths of America is selling wreaths to be placed on the graves of veterans at Greenwood Cemetery.

Snouffer Funeral Home Director and WAA Location Coordinator for Muskingum County Brad McCune, said every year on Dec.14 at Noon, people from all 50 states participate in a wreath-laying ceremony to honor fallen veterans. If you would like to be a part of that, you can purchase a wreath for $15.

"Wreaths may be purchased two ways actually, they can be purchased online, you can go to www.wreathsacrossamerica.org and you can also stop by our office here any day 9 to 5 p.m and purchase a wreath as well," said McCune.

Last year, McCune says over 400,000 wreaths were sold throughout the U.S. and 100 of those were sold right here in Muskingum County, but he’s hoping to top that. The ceremony, which is open to the public, focuses on spreading the Wreaths of America mission, which is to remember, honor and teach.

"Throughout this ceremony those 3 things are emphasized as far as remembering the veterans and what they have done for our freedoms, honoring them whether living or already deceased and then teaching through this service. Teaching the younger generations."

Wreaths can be purchased through the end of November. When they arrive, they will be distributed at Greenwood Cemetery on Dec. 14 before the ceremony.
