The Zanesville Police and Fire Departments are kicking off Fire Prevention Week with a joint open house at the fire station.

The two organizations hope that the public learns what they are capable of doing for the community, where their tax dollars are going and gain knowledgeable information about fire prevention and crime at Friday’s family outing.

"We’ve got our Jaws of Life we are demonstrating," said Fire Chief, Kevin Thomas. We are doing some repelling demonstrations. The police special response team is doing some demonstrations, the K-9 unit is doing some demonstrations. "

Thomas says that involving the police department in the open house was a no brainier since they are two very close organizations.

"We work a lot together on a lot of scenes there are police and fire involved. We’re in the same building. We all know each other it’s important that we work well together and we do, " said Thomas.

At the open house visitors will found plenty of free food and fun games for children.
