A celebration took place for a special employee of the Ohio Means Jobs Muskingum County Office.

Supervisor, Bob Mercer officially retired on Thursday after 16 years of service.A large group of community members including former colleagues, city officials and loved ones all came out to celebrate with him.

"It was special," said Mercer. I mean I feel really blessed, a lot of friends and family from my years here at jobs and family services and also some friends from my previous life when I was a recruiter with the Air National Guard "

Now that he’s retired, Mercer says that he will have more time to spend with his grandchildren and he plans to stay active in community organizations such as Forever Dads. Although he is excited to move on he says he will miss a few things about his old position.

" I think the people. I’ve been blessed to be a job that felt like I impacted on people’s lives or my office did and so I will miss the people and i’ll miss my staff and co-workers and it’s all part of it though. "

During the celebration Mercer received plenty of gifts, cards and even placed his name on the retired employee board. In his absence, Julie Metzger will now hold the title of Supervisor at Ohio Means Jobs Muskingum County. Mercer would like to thank everyone who came out to support him on such an important day and throughout his years of service.
