Christ’s Table Honors Veterans

Many area restaurants and establishments are offering discounts and free meals to Veterans Monday to recognize their service to our country.

Christ’s Table always provides free warm meals every day of the week and on Saturdays to those in need, but Monday, the local food pantry offered something a little more special to honor American heroes.

"There were a lot of veterans here, they were the first ones in line,” said A Daughter of the American Revolution, Sis Bowman. Keely has them come up right away and we honor them, and thank them for their service, that doesn’t happen often enough."

Bowman is a member of the Daughter’s of the American Revolution, which is an organization of women who have a family lineage to a fighter of The Revolutionary War. The DAR does service and community projects, focused primarily on veterans and work with them often.

"I notice that most of them are very humble, and very thankful, and extremely courteous, and I think that they appreciate any time they are thanked. They might act like they are not, because they are such humble people."

Executive Director of Christ’s Table, Keely Warden said, she expected about 350 people to dine inside Monday and there were 200 home bound meals. Bowman said she thinks after this first successful event, the DAR will make this a yearly or even monthly project.
