Disaster Relief Fund For The Philippines

If you have a little extra money to spare, the Muskingum Valley Red Cross is collecting donations to help out the people hit hardest by Typhoon Haiyan. Red Cross Executive Director Marlene Henderson says Red Cross volunteers are currently assisting victims in the Philippines, but says the need for supplies, food and water, is expected to grow.

"You could send a check here to our office. Put on the memo line that you want it earmarked for typhoon recovery in the Philippines, or just put Philippines on it and we will make sure that money is absolutely passed on," explained Henderson.

You can also donate by going online to www.redcross.org and clicking on "donate now." Henderson says there’s very limited phone service in the Philippines, so if you have family members either living or vacationing there, the Red Cross can help you locate them.

"If you have loved ones that live in the Philippines and are trying to find, call our office at 740-452-2731 and we can to the disaster tracing and submit it right from here."

One hundred percent of the money donated will be put into the Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund and will be used to buy supplies and other essential items needed to help with recovery in the Philippines. The Red Cross is only accepting monetary donations.
