Workers at Axion Recycled Plastics were evacuated from the factory on Monday following a machinery fire.

At around 1:30 p.m. fire crews from New Concord, Zanesville, Washington and Perry Townships responded to 4005 All American Way. Once there, they quickly contained the flames.

"It just stayed about in a 10 by 10 area, but because of the nature of the beast , the product in here it’s going to create a lot of smoke," said New Concord Fire Chief, Brent Gates.

Gates says that crews knew exactly how to put out the fire and executed a plan accordingly.

"We applied some Class A foam on it, cut down the smoldering stuff right now, right now we are in a little bit of an overhaul we are using a tow motor to move stuff outside," said Gates.

The fire did not produce any long term damage and there were no injuries cited, but the fire still remains under investigation.
