A local shopping event is giving local artists a chance to display their work while helping a good cause.

The 2nd annual Newton Township Fire Department Holiday Bazaar took place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday . The event had more than 40 vendors and many of them were local artists. One artist in particular says she loves having a chance to display her hand made paintings to the public.

"I like talking to people, seeing people, this is a busy time of year and everybody is ordering their Christmas presents and such, so it’s nice to do these this time of year, " said Owner and Artist at Sailor’s Delight.

A portion of the proceeds raised at the fundraiser will go towards providing money for the local Red Cross to help them provide emergency services to our area, and the rest will go back to the fire fighters at the Newton Township Fire Department.

"We will use it to help buy supplies for the fire department turn out gear, helmets gloves whatever we can use the money for, "said Lieutenant Jake Lutz.

Lutz also said he is pleased with this year’s turn out and that last year they $250 for the Red Cross. He also would like to thank everyone who participated in planning the event.
