The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for our area starting at 10 a.m Tuesday, and the Ohio Department of Transportation is getting ready.

The Muskingum County Manager of ODOT, Phil Valentine says that they are expecting snow to hit our area and he is bringing in extra help.

"It’s looking like it’s going to come shortly after midnight tonight, we have crews getting some salt loaded up, plows hooked up and getting prepared to come in at midnight or shortly after, we are going to see what the forecast shows," said Valentine.

In some severe weather , ODOT crews will often pretreat the roadways, but for this storm coming up Valentine says he doesn’t think it would help.

"We are not pretreating tonight, it’s a tool we typically use but it looks as if the storm is coming in fairly wet on the snow so we are going avoid using a pretreat tonight. We think it will dilute too quick in the early part of the storm, " said Valentine.

Valentine advises people to watch out for ODOT vehicles displaying amber and green lights when out driving. The crews go slower than average traffic in order to make sure the salt is evenly distributed to keep everyone safe.
