This Christmas, an organization called Toys for Tots is collecting new Christmas presents to give to local children. Toys for Tots Coordinator Opal Lambert says she has received requests from area churches, schools and other organizations for over 4,000 presents, which is double the amount needed last year. Lambert is asking the community to help make the toy drive a success and to help every child have a Merry Christmas.

"The need is real," explained Lambert. "I know that the need is real, I know that Zanesville-Muskingum County is a very caring county and I know that if you have the funds to donate, please donate, because I want children to understand that we care about them and for Christmas to be magical."

Presents are needed for kids and teens ranging in age from newborns to 18-years-old. You can drop off unwrapped presents to the Zanesville Fire Department’s Leonard Ave. station on November 30 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

"What we’ll have is a drive-thru the fire station drop off. We’ll have people come in on the Wabash side drive through the Leonard Avenue fire station, exit the Leonard Avenue side and that way they have a chance to drive through the fire station and see some of the stuff that goes on here and drop their toys off," said Local 88 President Trent Abrams.

Abrams says donations can also be dropped off at the other two fire station locations now through the holiday’s.
