Veterans, community leaders, and the public all gathered downtown to celebrate our American Heroes.

The annual Muskingum County Veteran’s Day Parade took place this morning . The parade was filled with candy for children, music, and plenty of decorated floats. Although this was a joyous event Vietnam Veteran, James Parker says that the public is unaware of the struggles many veterans still face at home.

"Mental illness… Job security that’s the same throughout the whole country, job security so veterans are not alone in that area, " said Parker.

He also says that up until recently it was hard for him to acknowledge the time he spent at war and now he has learned to accept and appreciate the support from the community.

"I’ll tell you up until five years ago it made me feel nothing because I recall coming into the country from Vietnam, it was the most depressed time of my life and most other people’s lives, "said Parker.

Although many veterans say that they were only doing what was expected of them, many went over and beyond the call of duty.
