The Muskingum Family YMCA’s annual Zaney Reindeer 5K Run and 1 Mile Walk is coming up.

Muskingum Family YMCA Executive Director Craig Miracle says the 5K and 1 mile walk was started 10 years ago as a way to provide runners an opportunity to run in winter and as a way to raise money for families and children who can’t afford the full price of the YMCA youth programs.

"We’re looking forward to it again," explained Miracle. "We’ve had a great participation for it the last nine years and looking forward to people coming out and supporting a good cause and our Strong Kids Campaign. Money that’s raised at this event will used to provide assistance to youth to participate in youth programs and sports at the Y."

Registration begins at 9 a.m. and the event will begin at 10 a.m. at the Vista View Golf Course on Saturday, Dec. 7. Miracle says depending on the weather, he’s hoping for about 60 to 70 participants. He says the event was designed so that people of all ages and abilities can participate.

"We’ve had folks that do the 5K will run part of it and walk part of it. The big thing is with our pillars; youth development, healthy living and social responsibility, we’re covering all three because we’ve got people out being healthy, supporting a great cause and supporting the kids."

Each runner or walker will receive a YMCA t-shirt, a holiday ornament and lunch following the event. You can contact the YMCAat 740-453-9622 for more information.
