The Animal Shelter Society of Muskingum County is having a Christmas open house this Saturday at 10 a.m. Executive Director Jody Murray says the first 12 adoptions of the day will be half price, and says the open house will be a full day of fun events for the entire family.

"We’re gonna have a craft for children throughout the day and then also, our shelter vet, Dr. Kelly Lewis, is gonna do a couple presentations," said Murray. "One at 11 a.m. and one at 1 p.m. about how to take care of your pets through the winter and kind of some cold weather suggestions and things like that."

There will also be door prizes at the open house and drawings for 5 micro chip gift certificates. Murray says the open house is one of many the shelter puts on throughout the year.

"We started last year with our Christmas open house and that’s kind of an annual event at this point and then we have our shelter fun day in June which we’re gonna plan that again this year. So it’s just an opportunity for people to come out and see the shelter, visit with the animals, kind of see what the shelter’s about."

If you can’t adopt this year, there’s another way you can give back to the shelter. Inside the shelter is a "giving tree" with names of items the shelter needs this holiday season. You can stop by pick up a tag or two and bring the gift back to the shelter. The open house is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. The Animal Shelter will still remain open until 4 p.m.
