Finding The Perfect Bottle To Pop On New Year’s Eve

The Winerak in Zanesville is preparing for one of the busiest days of the year, New Year’s Eve. And With hundreds of bottles of wine and champagne to choose from, finding just the right bottle to toast to can be overwhelming.

"We have plenty of sparkling wines and in our sparkling wine selection, we have asti, which is from Italy, and we have champagne which is from France," Owner of the Winerak, Mike Alfman explained. "And a lot of times, a person comes in and they’re not quite sure what they want, the first thing I ask them is, ‘Well would you rather have something a little sweeter or a little drier?’"

For those who want something a little sweeter, Alfman suggests going with an asti, he says a popular choice is Martini and Rossi. For those who prefer a drink that’s less sweet and drier, go with champagne. But if you’re still not sure, you can taste a few at the Winerak to find your favorite one.

"We’ll help them pick it out and at different times throughout the day during the holiday’s, we also have a license that allows us to sample and we would invite you to come in and ask us and perhaps sample something to see what the real difference is."

If you’ll be celebrating without alcohol, you can find non-alcoholic drinks at the Winerak as well. Alfman encourages those drinking on New Year’s Eve to plan ahead and don’t drink and drive.
