The Village of South Zanesville is mourning the loss of the current mayor and long time volunteer firefighter after he was killed in the line of duty.
According to South Zanesville Fire Chief, Norm Mansfield and Fiscal Officer of the village, Chris Kerby, Terry Richard "Dick" Guss has tragically passed away due to injuries sustained from a Friday morning fall. EMA Director and friend, Bo Keck says Dick sat on several boards and was an influential member of the community.
"What can I say about Dick other than he was a great man, I mean very very dedicated to the emergency services of Muskingum County. Dick has been a Volunteer Fire Fighter for years. I’ve been with Dick on many fires and events."
Keck says that it will take time to heal after such a tragic loss, but he believes Guss would rather people only remember his legacy.
" I think Dick would want everything to go on like it is. I think he would want people to carry on what he started, especially at the Village of South Zanesville. Dick has been very instrumental on a lot of stuff down there," said Keck.
As of now there are no funeral arrangements set for Guss but Whiz will keep you updated as more details develop.
