Locals ran for more than 3 miles through the rain and snow for a good cause on Saturday.

Runners and walkers met at Vista Golf Course in Nashport to participate in the 10th Annual 5K Reindeer Run and 1 Mile Walk to benefit Muskingum Family Y’s Strong Kids Financial Assistance Program. The funds allow children who are not capable of paying to join various Y programs free of charge.

"There is several programs we have, a lot of sports programs also our summer day camp that’s probably where we provide the most assistance of the year. We will raise about $22,000 for our Strong Kids Campaign this year, " said Executive Director of Muskingum Family Y, Craig Miracle.

Miracle says the run is a way for the YMCA to connect with some of its biggest supporters and that their support is what makes a difference in the lives of children everyday.

"It’s a great opportunity because the kids that we serve regardless of their ability to pay are given the opportunity to meet, make relationships and build relationships with other kids, with the staff that we have, it’s a very wonderful caring staff and they are great role models for the kids and it just brings kids of all walks of life together," said Miracle.

At the end of the run, people were awarded small gifts and were provided lunch while learning more about the Strong Kids Program.
