Salvation Army Desperately Needs Your Help

A local organization, known for its giving spirit during the holiday season, is desperate for more help before Christmas.

With only days left of The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle fundraiser, it is 46 thousand dollars below what they made last year.

"We really need a miracle from God, and the public, to try to meet those needs,” plead Major Diane Campbell. “To try to carry us through the Christmas season to pay for- we do get some donations in with food, but we still have to cover the cost of what does not come in, to provide those 13 hundred baskets"

Campbell says this will significantly and negatively impact the budget for the next year. She believes there are a couple of reasons as to why it is so low, including the recent harsh weather and high unemployment rates.

"I also think that with Thanksgiving being so late, we couldn’t get out into the stores until the 29th, and so a lot of that donations and dollars or quarters that you put in there, we didn’t have them out there until then, so that gave like the two weeks, you know two and half weeks to raise that money."

Any amount you can donate will help the cause, change and dollar bills do add up. The Salvation Army also needs man power Thursday for its distribution day. If you wish to volunteer or make a donation, head down to the salvation army on Putnam Avenue or you can give them a call at 740-452-8350.
