Think Twice Before Gifting A Pet

If you did get for a pet for Christmas, and it’s more work than you initially thought it would be, rescue coordinator at the Muskingum County Animal Shelter Society, Charity Stevens, says to give your pet some time to adjust before taking it to the shelter.

"There’s always a transitional period when you get a new pet that can be anywhere from two to three weeks so at least give it a little bit of a try to see if the pets gonna work and let them adjust because they’ve just been from one environment to another, so they can be a little bit overwhelmed," said Stevens.

Stevens says if that doesn’t work, you can take your pet to the Animal Shelter, where they will try and find a new home for it.

"Just always remember if you did get a pet for Christmas and it really wasn’t what you’re wanting, you can bring it to us and we can find a home for it."

You can drop off unwanted animals at the Animal Shelter Monday through Friday from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. and on Saturday’s from 12: p.m. until 3:30 p.m.
