The City of Zanesville in partnership with Walmart picked six winners for their annual Zanesville Art Contest on Thursday.
Zanesville’s Mayor, Jeff Tilton says that Walmart provides the city with $500 to purchase prizes for the art contest winners. The award recipients range in grade levels from 1st to 6th grade. Mayor Tilton says he was impressed with the hundreds of drawings he saw and it was tough to pick his favorites.
"This year was amazing because a lot of the kids used cotton and a lot of things that you don’t usually see in the arts that we get during Christmas time, but this year they were very creative," said Tilton.
This year’s theme for the contest was "Here Comes Santa" and fifth grader, Sydney Cronin says that inspired her detailed drawing filled with an elf, presents and more.
"It’s Santa with a bag and there is stuff in the background. I tried to make it look like it’s night with the moon and the store staying closed on the back of it and the clock pointing at 12 o’clock."
The mayor says he would like to thank all of the students who participated and the teachers who encouraged them to send in their work.
