It was a busy New Year’s Day on the labor and delivery floor at Genesis-Bethesda Hospital.
There was a total of seven new year’s babies born Wednesday night. Clinical Coordinator on the labor and delivery floor at Bethesda, Dee Welsh, R.N., said it was hectic day, but one filled with bundles of joy.
"It was really busy this year on New Year’s Day," said Welsh. "We had three deliveries before I got here at 7 a.m. and we had three more after we got here, so it was a busy new year’s, usually we’re waiting a couple days."
First-time parents, Christina and Nickolas Bennett welcomed the first baby of 2014. At 12:53 a.m. on Jan. 1, they welcomed Lillie Don Bennett into the world. Weighing 5 pounds, 12 ounces, Lillie came into the world about a week early.
"She was actually due January 6th, but I had a doctor’s appointment and they told me that we were gonna get induced on the 31st. So I was kind of a little nervous, I wasn’t expecting it," the new mom explained.
"I’s very exciting, I was there holding her hand with her during the labor and during the delivery and everything, and it’s very intense to see all of that, but it’s worth watching," Nickolas said of his daughter’s birth.
Both parents said they are very excited about parenthood.
