Community members are being recognized for their dedication to the area at this year’s Martin Luther King Jr. Prayer Breakfast.

Susan Jones is one of five adults being honored on Monday morning. She says that uplifting the youth is one of her lifelong passions. Two years ago she started volunteering with Zanesville Community of Voices where their mission is to provide activities for local children to keep them off of the streets.

"We do something almost every month. We’ve been doing gospel concerts, we’ll be doing are next one in March and to see those children, they are just unbelievable. The talent that is here but is not showcased, " said Jones.

Jones says she is humbled, shocked and confused about the recognition, but appreciates the kind gesture. She says she hopes the exposure brings more volunteers to the organization.

" We need people to help set up tables to do different games because when we do the basketball we have other games going on for them too not just basketball. They could be doing hula hoop or we have the library come the fire department comes, " said Jones.

Jones will be honored at North Terrace Church of Christ at 9 a.m. For more information about Zanesville Community of Voices you can visit them online at
