The Muskingum Growth Partnership is accepting nominations for their Awards for Community and Economic Success.

The Zanesville-Muskingum County Chamber of Commerce President Tom Poorman, says starting a business in any community is a risk, and the annual "ACES" awards is a way of recognizing local businesses for their success, and thanking them for their investment they’ve made here in Muskingum County.

"The whole point is to celebrate economic growth that’s occurring in our community," said Poorman. "So a small business might have a small expansion or receive some sort of industry award or recognition, substantial sales growth, something like that, they could be eligible for one of these awards."

Poorman says nominations come from the businesses themselves, and says you can even nominate yourself. The awards will be presented at the chamber’s annual spring break-themed meeting in March. Nominations will be accepted online at through the month of February

If you’re a business looking to improve on customer service, the chamber will be hosting a customer service seminar at the John McIntire Library Auditorium on Friday, Jan. 21.

"The name of the seminar is, ‘Make a friend in a minute,’ said Dana Matz, director of member services at ZMCCC. "Basically first impressions, customer service training, making the customer, the consumer feel good about being at your business or doing business with you."

Matz says the seminar will feature Lisa Kristensen, the Columbus Zoo’s guest relations manager as the speaker. The seminar is open to both chamber and non-chamber members. Reservations are required. For more information you can go online to
