Those needing shelter in this frigid weather can seek help at the Salvation Army.
With dangerously cold temperatures in the forecast, shelter manager, Karen Walker, says there are spots available at the Salvation Army’s Putnam Avenue location.
"We are open in the office from 8 o’clock in the morning until 4:30 in the afternoon and then we have our hot meals program from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m." Walker explained. "So they can come in and speak to somebody at that point, or they can come into the shelter door which is down the street at the end of the building and buzz and somebody will answer that."
All you need to bring with you is an ID or your Social Security Card. If for some reason you don’t have identification, Walker says she’ll work with law enforcement and area agencies to verify your identity.
"We do know it’s very very cold. So for those out there needing shelter, please give us a call, please stop in. Even if we can’t help the person, we will do everything within our power to help somebody get out of the cold and be safe over these next couple days."
You can contact the Salvation Army by stopping by 515 Putnam Ave. or by calling 740-452-8350.
