The Zanesville Appalachian Arts Project has chosen their featured artist of the month for January.
Kathy Jenkins is a member of ZAAP and this months featured artist. She says she spent almost forty years as a school teacher in the Franklin Local and Zanesville City School districts. Once she retired eight years ago she knew that art would be her full time hobby.
"I had it in my heart that I wanted to become an artist although I had done a lot of drawings and paintings throughout my life my mother was artist and one of the first members of ZAAP and my sister also had membership with ZAAP and served as director for eight consecutive years, " said Jenkins.
Her art will be featured at this Friday’s Art Walk. Guests can expect a variety of paintings featuring different themes and memories throughout Jenkins lifetime. Many hold a special place in her heart.
"I have 25 pieces showing that I have had as projects over the last eight years and I’ve done them for family and friends and they loaned them to us for this special show," said Jenkins.
Other pieces of her work are for sale and will be listed at the gallery. If you would like to see more of her work you can visit the ZAAP Gallery Thursday through Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. ZAAP is currently taking new members and if you are interested in joining talk to one of their members when visiting at 625 Main Street.
