The Village of Dresden, New Lexington and New Concord have all experienced severe water main breaks in the past few weeks. Officials from the Zanesville Water Department say they have also experienced breaks, but are lucky that none have been detrimental.

Water Superintendent, Paul Mills says that water main breaks have decreased from 268 in 2012 to 206 in 2013. This year Mills says they have only been called out to fix a few so far.

"As far as main water breaks, we only had three which had been really good for us so when everything starts thawing we will probably have a few more breaks, " said Mills.

Streets affected during those breaks included Moore, Francis and Wilmer. Mills says that his crew is constantly working to fix these breaks, but residents need to understand that these issues often take time.

"Be patient. By time the locates come in sometimes they are wondering ‘hey what’s going on out there,’ but we have to wait for the locates to come in sometimes that take a hour or two hours, but the guys are right on top of things hopefully between four to six hours they are repaired," said Mills.

Officials say that the city applies for grants and has $500,000 worth of inventory and parts that are associated with fixing the breaks.
