Benefit for Local Director

by Nichole Hannahs on February 21, 2014

Local theater goers know the work of Rich Tolliver at the Renner in downtown Zanesville through his directing and performing.

The man who’s used to being on the go suffered a setback recently when a piece of construction equipment failed and Tolliver struck his head, lacerating his scalp.

The ensuing hospital stay and physical therapy has caused a hardship financially. That’s when his friends decided to give back to Tolliver who’s helped to raise more than $100,000 over the year’s for the Salvation Army through the Angel Tree Benefit.

"Since he’s given so much to the community we thought it would be only appropriate to create a benefit situation for him," said Organizer Bruce Revennaugh.

The benefit includes dinner, a silent auction and a whole lot of signing from musicals like South Pacific, My Fair Lady and many others. More than 30 performers will take part. A couple performer’s will also share their favorite Tolliver stories.

"You really can’t talk about somebody in theater without there being a point where it’s a little strange and wonderful," added Revennaugh. "We’re looking for a kind of low heat level roast, I guess."

The benefit takes place Saturday February 22 at Prophet’s Park. Food will be served at 7p.m. with the program at 8p.m. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at People’s Bank, The Genesis Foundation and Williamson Insurance. You can also call (740) 452-7383.
