Genesis Healthcare Foundation Breaks Fundraising Goal

The Genesis Healthcare Foundation celebrates a monumental achievement in the building of the new Genesis Medical Center.

Officials from the foundation held an open house ceremony to say thank you to the community for their help in surpassing their 15 million dollar fundraising goal. The project was two years in the making.

"We started with the folks in our internal family, board members, employees physicians and we also had a committee of community members who spoke to their friends and business leaders and basically asked them to support the project, " said Foundation Executive Director, Paul McClelland.

Chairwoman for the Genesis Foundation Board, Alice Mauk says they raised 15. 9 million dollars in total. She credits the dedication of 500 area volunteers and even more hospital workers.

"They have pledged over a million dollars, I think that is tremendous and our employees, we have about 2,500 they pledged 2.2 million dollars, " said Mauk.

The new hospital will feature nearly 300 private patient rooms and state of the art technology. During the open house guests signed one of the support beams that will be used in the new hospital. It will open to the public in June of 2015.
