Local Artists Decorate Rain Barrels for a Good Cause

Two local organizations are working together to bring beauty to our area through a combined art project.

The Muskingum Valley Garden Society’s Spring Garden Symposium is coming up on March 1 at the Zane State -OUZ campus. Each year the group has rain barrels up for auction. This year they decided to work with ten artists from the Artist’s Colony to decorate the barrels.

"A big feature for us are the rain barrels, rain barrels catch rain off of a roof and it’s a way of recycling and instead of having just plain old barrels we have gorgeous pieces of art on the barrels this year, " said Garden Soceity Member, Beth Brown.

Proceeds from the barrels will go towards community planting projects that the garden society performs throughout the year. Each barrel is specifically designed to add beauty to our area.

"There’s some with horses, some with lambs, moss, peacocks, anything that has beautiful color seems like the artists attached to it and put it on to the barrel," said Artist’s Colony President, Linda Regula.

If you would like a chance to bid on a barrel you can visit the spring symposium. The event starts at 7:30 a.m. with registration and will end with closing remarks at around 2 p.m. For more information including ticket prices feel free to visit the Muskingum Valley Garden Society online.
