Assistant Director of the John McIntire Library, Blair Tom, says in 2013, for every dollar invested in the general revenue fund, the library provided $5.15 in services, resources and materials to the community.
"Every year we try to grow that," said Tom. "We think it’s important. Certainly we’re pleased with the figure, but we always want to do better. So we’re not satisfied, but we feel that $5.15 is a good return on investment for every dollar."
Last year the library loaned or provided access to over a million materials or services to Muskingum County residents. Also, 31,000 items were downloaded through the library’s digital collection. Something else on the upswing for the library? There has been an increase in both library programs provided to the community and an increase in attendance. According to the annual report, over 33,000 residents attended 726 free library programs.
"So we see real encouraging signs and they’re benchmarks that help us measure our success and report to the community the value that they’re getting from their investment in the library."
As for what needs improvement in 2014, Tom says a strategic plan has been put in place to increase young adult library memberships.
