A new sign in downtown Zanesville will help visitors learn about businesses and their location.
The Downtown Association and the Zanesville Muskingum County Chamber of Commerce worked together to create signs that display what the city has to offer. City officials took ideas from a couple of bigger cities in Ohio to come up with a design and theme for the directory.
"We visited the short north in Columbus, then doing online research, we studied the Over the Rhine district in the Cincinnati two of the more successful cities in Ohio and maybe in the nation for revitalization, " said Chamber Membership Services Director, Dana Matz.
The signs are color coordinated by type of business, there are eight sections that include shopping, arts, restaurants and even more. The new feature helps people navigate downtown without assistance.
"We need to have more information for people coming to the area maybe when businesses like the Welcome Center are closed, where the can’t specifically speak to somebody so they know what is downtown. Where the restaurants are, where the arts businesses are, those types of things recreational things," said Matz.
The signs are scan friendly for I phones. It will direct users to a link to the visit Zanesville Website. A second sign is going to be located on Main Street in the near future the signs were paid for through funds from the 2013 Downtown Association Membership Drive.
