Gymnastics teams from all across Ohio competed at the Y-City Gymnastics Invitational Sunday afternoon. Mallory Gardner, meet director for the event, said while gymnastics is an individual sport, it’s also a team sport.

"The girls can individually win an event, so they can win vault bars, beam or floor," Gardner explained. "And then we also have a team score where the top three scorers from each event will tie into the team score and they can win the team all around."

Gardner said the teams practice year-round with their competition season starting in September and going all the way through April. With over 400 spectators in attendance, the girls were judged on a number of things.

"They’re judged on their routines, each level 2, 3, 4, 5, they all have the exact same routine within their level. They’re looking for technique, their pointed toes, straight legs and if they have the skills."

This was the first time the Y-City Invitational was held at the Fieldhouse. This year’s theme was "Wild about Zanesville."
