Akron Draws Purdue in NCAA Women’s Tournament

Tri-Valley alumni Hanna Luburgh and Carly Young have extra incentive to do the Irish Jig on St. Patrick’s Day.

The Akron Lady Zips are going dancing.

Luburgh, Young and company drew a 13-seed in the South Bend Region and will face 4-seed Purdue in the first round. The Zips are making their first ever tournament appearance after beating Ball State 79-68 in the MAC championship. Young scored 15 points and knocked down three 3-pointers in the win.

On the season, Luburgh leads Akron in scoring, averaging 22.7 points per game. Young is averaging 9.1 points to go along with six rebounds.

The Boilermakers finished fourth in the B1G with a 21-8 record.

Tip-off is slated for 1:30 this Saturday in West Lafayette, Ind.
