The Muskingum County Community Foundation is helping area children get a head start on college.
Area students in grades 6 through 12 are invited to attend the Muskingum County Community Foundation’s 8th Annual College Night. Director of College Access Programs, Heather Sands, says the event not only prepares students for college, but it also educates students on how the financial aid process works, scholarships, and admissions.
"They’ll learn anything from financial aid to what do I want to be when I grow up to also just learning about the scholarship process," said Sands. "So anything related to higher education or planning life beyond high school they can get information. We’ll have sessions for middle school and high school students."
At College Night, 25 scholarships will be given away to 25 lucky students. Sands says there is no application for the scholarship and all you have to do is simply show up and stay for the entire event.
"They’re $250 a piece, all donated from local community members and businesses and higher ed institutions. And all the student has to do is show up when the event begins at 6 o’clock, register, stay for the entirety, attend all of the sessions to get information and then they’re entered into the drawing."
College Night will take place Thursday, March 13 from 6-8:30 p.m. at the Zane State College/OUZ Campus Center. For more information you can call the Muskingum County Community Foundation at 740-453-5192.
