Spring Forward This Weekend

by Nichole Hannahs on March 4, 2014

The time to spring clocks forward an hour is quickly approaching.

During this time it’s also important to check the batteries in a device that could save you or your family.

"Saving your life can be as simple as just changing your smoke detector battery twice a year during the time change," said Zanesville Firefighter Trent Abrams. "It’s just good to update that to know that you have good batteries in your smoke detector."

If you have gas appliances in the home you should also have a carbon monoxide detector and check its batteries as well.

"You can not smell carbon monoxide. It’s odorless and tasteless," said Abrams. "If you get the symptoms of feeling ill or tired it’s a good idea to have a carbon monoxide detector in your house."

If you need a smoke detector for your home you can pick one up at the fire stations on Epply, Leonard or Third Avenues. Clocks spring forward at 2a.m. Sunday March 9.
