The YMCA’s annual Saint Patty’s Day Mud Run took place on Saturday to benefit local children in need.
More than 60 people ran three miles in the windy weather to support the YMCA’s Strong Kids Campaign. The initiative aims to provide scholarship money for children that who need help affording various youth programs throughout the year.
"Every kid does deserve a chance to participate. We do have a lot of activities, we have flag football, we have soccer, we have basketball and it helps kids of all ages and all programs, " said YMCA leader, Kelly Robinson.
Robinson says that participating in sports a young age not only keeps children physically fit, but it helps keep them mentally fit as well.
" It builds their confidence. It also gives them good eye coordination and hand coordination, it helps kids individually and in a group settings, and it helps build valuable skills they will use for years to come through middle school high school and in their adult lives, " said Robinson.
The organization is hoping to raise at least $1,000 for their 3rd annual mud run.
