Kay Clymer, president and organizer for the Zanesville Patriots is organizing a forum to discuss FairTax and flat tax coming up later this month.

"It is on the fair tax, flat tax. It’s a forum they will be debating," said Clymer. "The audience will be able to ask their questions to see if the two defenders of the flat tax fair tax will be able to answer their questions. The objective is to change our tax system."

A flat tax is a single rate that applies to everyone such as a sales tax. According to Clymer, FairTax is where everyone pays a sales tax on new goods or services, and used items are not taxed.

"If you were buying your home from me, there would be no tax. If you go to someplace like Goodwill or some other place and you bargain for your clothes, there is no taxes on that. Anything that’s brand new, you will pay a tax. And then there is a rebate. So that everybody if you’ve paid much more than your share, will get something back."

The forum is open to all and will be held Saturday March 29 from 1 to 4 p.m. in the John McIntire Library Auditorium.
