The Zanesville-Muskingum County Chamber of Commerce is holding its annual Spring Break meeting this Friday at the Welcome Center. President Tom Poorman says although the meeting is a "light hearted affair," it’s an important time to recognize local businesses.
"We’re trying to recognize the economic growth in the community, we’re trying to celebrate the business successes as I said safety achievements, celebrate the risk that these businesses have taken to invest in the community and invest in their businesses and grow and create jobs," explained Poorman. "So again there’s a very serious purpose underlying all of it."
There will be two sets of awards given out; ACES, which stands for awards for community and economic success, and safety council awards, which recognize businesses for achieving workplace safety. Poorman says nominations started coming in around the first of January and came from the chamber of commerce, the companies themselves, customers and suppliers.
"And then we look at some very simple criteria, have they created jobs?, the dollars they’ve invested, in some cases, maybe they’ve won an award in their industry, maybe they’ve won some sort of award for being a top company in their particular line of business."
Anyone is welcome to attend the Spring Break meeting this Friday at 7 a.m., but reservations are required. For more information you can go online to www.zmchamber.com.
