Athletes go through many physical challenges in order to compete.
To make sure these student-athletes start the season healthy the Ohio High School Athletic Association requires each to complete a physical. Saturday, May 3 Orthopedic Associates opens their doors for students in our area to meet this requirement through their free physical program.
"It’s primarily to make sure that the athlete doesn’t have some medical condition whether it be a heart or lung problem or a muscular/skeletal problem. It basically makes sure that going in to the season they’re no detected medical problem that would keep them from participating," said Dr. Steven Kimberly Orthopedic Surgeon.
Orthopedic Associates said they often see sprains, ligament tears and shoulder dislocations throughout the sports seasons. To make sure your student athlete stays healthy it’s important to train.
"Being in good shape and undergoing appropriate flexibility and straightening programs does help to decrease the injury rate," said Kimberly. "However with these athletes as intensely as they play there’s always going to be injuries."
The physical begin Saturday at 8a.m. athletes should bring with them a physical form signed by their parents. Those can be found on the OHSAA website. If you would like to register for the event you do so by calling (740) 588-1089.
