The Muskingum County Commissioners held a bid opening on Thursday for a series of road pavement projects.
The commissioners met with members from the Muskingum County Engineer’s Office to discuss nine road improvement projects throughout the county and area townships. Some of the main road ways up for maintenance include Adamsville, Canal and Clay Pike.
"Well as everybody knows with the extreme winter that we have had we have had a lot of problems with the roadways. Some of the work is preventative and some of its repairs, " said Matt Russell, MCEO.
Members from the Shelly and Sands company and the Shelley company submitted bid proposals at Thursday meeting, before accepting their offers the engineer’s office will look over paperwork.
"We look for the lowest price, but we also look to see if bond requirements and different things are met and make sure all the formalities are in place, " said Russell.
The pavement projects are expected to be completed by September and combined are estimated to cost more than a $1 million. The projects will include laying down ashphalt or cold mix depending in the severity of the issue.
